The error message means that your ~/.gv is too old and needs to be deleted/moved away for gv to work. (gv got some new special magnifications) Sadly I see not much possiblity to improve that situation easily. Perhaps a more suggestive error message might perhaps help? Hochachtungsvoll, Bernhard R.
