Well- ironically, considering my earlier rant, Debian's
deviation from upstream with the uswsusp recommendation and
patch actually mean my laptop *does* suspend properly, out
of the box, with 2.6.25 and earlier ;-)

However 98smart-kernel-video disables all quirks (either
it's own, or passing them on to s2ram) when running under
2.6.26 or later on the assumption they are not necessary;
the s3 ones are at least for some 855GM chipsets (thinkpad
x40 being one; see
<http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10985>)

Since all 98smart-kernel-video would do, if it weren't for
this, is make pm-utils "cleaner", I'd ask that it was
disabled for the s3 quirks at least, for Lenny (unless by
some miracle we fix the issue in the kernel in time for
enny's kernel, and either get the patch into the kernel

Does that mean, if you remove 98smart-kernel-video (i.e. the acpi quirks are applied for your graphics adapter), you can successfully suspend with 2.6.26 kernels?

Matthew had suggested this hook upstream, so I CCed him for comments.

If it's indeed the case, that 2.6.26 still requires quirks for some intel graphics adapters, we should either refine the checkes in 98smart-kernel-video (but tbh I don't know which criteria we could use) or remove this hook again (also upstream).

Cheers,
Michael

P.S: Maybe it would make sense to take this discusssion to the pm-utils mailing list.
