My report should make it obvious that it is not well known, at least not to me, and I would also say the documented behaviour is not following the principle of least surprise. I was very surprised to discover that an existing user showed up in ps with the uid and not the username, and started to suspect something wrong with NSS. I would say the behaviour of ps is bad, and should be changed, not just documented.
