This should go into pm-utils, unfortunately. If you look at pm-utils bug #481766: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=481766 you will see that I submitted a patch similar to yours about two monts ago, and the only thing they did is set it to wishlist and ignore it...
