FWIW, I am having exactly the same problem. The mouse is not detected with the 2.6.24 and 2.6.22 amd64 kernel packages in Lenny. 2.6.18 works just fine though. The 2.6.18 kernel in etch works too..
Any information I can provide about this? I found this: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10382 But this is a regression *from* 2.6.24.
