I'm not sure why it hasn't already been done in the way you suggest; certainly it would make sense so I suspect there may be some subtleties. I opted for the simple fix for now given that we are close to both a final release of MT 4.2, and lenny - I would rather not rock the boat too much with code changes etc. now.
