I've tried Gerris from the debian repository, but the reults are underwhelming. On amd64, simple configuration files get syntax errors, the software is very old and pretty useless.
The developer of Gerris obviously prefers to maintain his own repository at http://gts.sourceforge.net/debian/ and http:// gfs.sourceforge.net/debian/ The versions in his repository are pretty stable and updated regularly. There is only one development line, no distinction between stable and unstable.
I'm not sure how Debian's policy about such situations is, but leaving this very old version in the repo doesn't fit a good experience. Likely it's better to remove this old cruft than leaving it where it is.
