The problems are related to display activity. Moving windows causes blackout very quickly (under a second), while if sitting idle the screen stays alive for 10-30 seconds. Reverting back to 1:6.8.0-1 makes these problems go away. Text mode does not have any problems. My video card is an ATI R430 (Radeon X800 XL PCIe).
