I think #487637 is something else, as I said.

Do you have a /var/lib/dpkg/ for #489068 ?

I think the --no-act fix should go in lenny.  Failing that we need at
the very least a safety catch which stops it actually trying to do
things.  It will currently fail assertions and might even actually try
to execute something.
