Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal S/Ident was an authentication system developed at Stanford University that did GSSAPI authentication via the ident port. I believe we were the only site with any significant deployment. We've phased it out completely as of this spring.
The protocol has fundamental security flaws making it vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks, so it's only useful for low-value authentication. I'm also upstream for this package and consider upstream development frozen. I don't plan on making any further releases. Given the low popcon counts in Debian and my belief that the deployment was quite limited, I don't think there's any reason to keep this package in the archive. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
