Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

S/Ident was an authentication system developed at Stanford University
that did GSSAPI authentication via the ident port. I believe we were
the only site with any significant deployment. We've phased it out
completely as of this spring.

The protocol has fundamental security flaws making it vulnerable to
man-in-the-middle attacks, so it's only useful for low-value
authentication.

I'm also upstream for this package and consider upstream development
frozen. I don't plan on making any further releases.

Given the low popcon counts in Debian and my belief that the deployment
was quite limited, I don't think there's any reason to keep this package
in the archive.
