I talked to the ALSA developers and they kindly figured out that
the necessary patch is to add to sound/pci/hda/patch_conexant.c's
cxt5045_cfg_tbl array,
SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1179, 0xff31, "Toshiba P105", CXT5045_LAPTOP_MICSENSE),
This presumably means that I somehow messed up my previous attempt to
test model=laptop-micsense.
I confirmed the fix so I'm guessing they'll push the patch upstream.
