I started having the same problem that prevent me to listen to my music some days ago with Ubuntu Hoary.
A mount command show: /dev/sda1 on /media/IPOD-1GB type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,noatime,quiet,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8) This mount is done automatically by the system.
