Run-Time Error
slrn fatal error:
Failed to initialize server.

The debian/rules indicate configure is being invoked with 
--with-gnutls, so I would expect ssl support.
Unfortunately this doesn't actually configure tls
as there is no tls code within the current original tarball or
patches.

It works with libssl-dev and replacing --with-gnutls with
--with-ssl.
