Hello, I just tried openoffice on a second computer (a laptop) also under KDE4, supposedly having an (almost) identical configuration as my desktop computer. Both are under debian unstable/experimental and both underwent a clean reinstall recently. The bug does NOT reproduce on the laptop, so now I must figure out where the difference lies... May take me a while, as I have little time to experiment at the office. I'll let you know if and when I find the solution. Thanks for your attention, and I will keep you informed.
Alan P.S. KDE4 beta seems to be getting close to stable, and, after a difficult start (4.0 was unusable), I do like the way it is going, even if everything is not yet perfect!
