Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal I am requesting removal of the xerces28 source package and its associated binary packages from unstable. Since April 20, the version of xerces28 in lenny has been a transitional package, and I think two months is long enough for it to do its job considering the low popcon of xerces28 and the fact that it had hardly any reverse dependencies. The only package that I'm aware of that has a build dependency on libxerces28-dev is xqilla which I see has been removed from testing as of 2008-06-15 and which I filed a bug against already. There appear to be no packages with a dependency on libxerces28 since the most recent rebuild of xqilla already took care of that (via the transitional packages).
The removal of xerces28 completes the transition to the new xerces package organization and finally realizes the goal of having only one version of each major (source-compatible) release of xerces in the archive at a time. It is my full expectation that xerces-c2 version 2.8.0 will be the only version of xerces-c in Lenny as it seems unlikely that xerces-c 3.0 will be released in time. Even if it is, there will be no need for a transition as the xerces-c and xerces-c2 packages will likely coexist for some time. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (200, 'experimental'), (200, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
