Same problem here.

This is because the prerm script attempts to download files from
http://people.debian.org (using wget), which is not currently available,
and fails to generate a timeout.

Which leads to the question: why does a removal script need to download
files? And why does a Debian script depend on the availability of
people.debian.org?

I think at least depending on people.debian.org qualifies as a bug in
itself.
