It is unclear what caused that, but seems likely it was a server
problem.  Running with -1 -d imap (taking care to scrub sensitive data
from the resulting log) may be informative.

That's something that has been asked for before as a wishlist bug, but
would require substantial amount of work on the core architecture, which
I don't have time to do for free right now.
