There's two expected use cases here: people installing their own network (in which case they set up the server and know exactly how everything is set up already) and people joining an existing network where the network administrator will provide them with appropriate information. I don't really want to get into dealing with cases where people are installing client machines without the support of the network administrator since that's going to involve things like grovelling the configuration details out of other machines on the network in ways which are going to depend on the various OSs installed, will require root access for some bits of configuration and could quite easily go wrong if someone picks the wrong machine to clone.
