Hi, exec summary: - cupsys freezes when printing large documents - problem became very frequent with many different documents, different installations and different apps used - please fix before release the problem described in my bug report became very frequent unfortunately and should not be part of Sarge IMHO. I will try to describe it as best as possible. The printer stops printing and the web interface shows that the printer is busy printing a certain page (which it didn't start printing on the printer yet) with a certain percentage. When I stop the printer using the cups interface and kill the job I find three processes hanging on the system with top: rastertohp parallel gs-esp when I try to kill them I need signal 9 since signal 15 isn't working. If I kill rastertohp and parallel gs-esp disappears as well. After that when I start printing again the page that was worked on last comes out the printer, but not fully. The percentage that was in the web interface is now printed on page. E.g. if the web interface said "Printing page 7, 59% complete..." exactly 59% of the page come out, the rest is white. But this is after I killed the job and the processes. I also found out how to get around this problem (because it is a waste of paper). When I switch off the printer before I kill the processes and switch back on later the page is not there. By the way, my printer is the HP Laserjet 4 Plus I used ps and pdf documents with different pdf readers. I used different drivers, I did a complete reinstall once. But the problem is still there. I pretty much described the fix for a broken system above. I also discovered that it seems to be the size of the whole document that causes the problem. The larger the document (in size) the more likely it is to have cupsys crash. So the current fix is to break up large documents into small portions and to print job by job. Best is to print them page by page. Thank You very much for the help, if You need any more information please contact me asap. Malte Schmidt-Tychsen
