The solution in etch is to replace the string "remoteip" with "host" in the file lighttpd.conf
remoteip is truly for non-local webserving. This fix is based on the upstream documentation at http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/Docs:Configuration The documentation for lighttpd (in lighttpd-doc package) is very basic.
