Dear Rogerio
I reported the bug to apple, and later got this back from them:
<quote>

I'm not actively using hfs+ on the NAS right now, though.

First of all, sorry for the very late reply. I had serious health and
personal problems.
I saw your bug report for Apple/Darwin hfsprogs port to Debian,
while
looking for a Debian mkfs.hfsplus (for a NAS running Debian on arm,
for a "time machine" repository)
Since you are running a NAS on arm, I think that I can enable the
software to build on other 32-bit platforms.
I obviously can't guarantee that it will work ok (since the code has
some ioctl calls and I have not yet checked if the Darwin ioctls match
those in Linux---in principle, this would be the case, but you never
know).
I was already contacted by one arme{l,b} maintainer that asked me to
support it in the next upload. Is that sufficient for you?
The bug is still there in the 10.5 source, now released.
I just downloaded the package from Apple intending to package it for
Debian and, indeed, you are correct, the bug is still there. The
communication channels with Apple seem to be bureaucratic and you
don't
seem to have direct access to their developers, from what I could see.
I guess that we could start a project on alioth (Debian's
"sourceforge")
to maintain a set of patches that would clean up Apple's code and
try to
get them submitted. There is a lot of work to do and I would like to
maintain some HFS+ filesystems, but I am under x86-64 and fsck.hfsplus
just segfaults here (unfortunately, at that exact point that I
quoted on
http://bugs.debian.org/436159).
Regards, Rogério Brito.
P.S.: Please, note the reply-to list. It would be kind of your if you
could maintain it while replying so that we can get interested parties
on this.
