I've to create hardlink for 'monit status' to work:
ln /etc/monit/monitrc /etc/monitrc

Withoud this file monit exits with error message:
monit: Cannot find the control file at ~/.monitrc, /etc/monitrc, /etc/monitrc, 
/usr/local/etc/monitrc or at ./monitrc
