There is a bug in the data.verb file, which causes an infinite loop if
you try to look up the hypernyms of "inhibit".

I can confirm that

    wn inhibit -hypev

leads to

WordNet library error: Error Cycle detected
   restrain
WordNet library error: Error Cycle detected
   inhibit
WordNet library error: Error Cycle detected
   inhibit

There is a patch for it at:

http://wordnet.princeton.edu/~ben/WN3.loop.patch

Would you be able to apply this and then rebuild wordnet?

Well, thanks for the hint to the patch and in principle I would like
to apply this but as you might have noticed the WordNet packages in
Debian are builded from the real source of the WordNet database which
is contained in the grind tarball. So if I would apply the patch after
processing the grind databases it would be a quite dirty hack which
I would hate to do. Coudl you please do some investigation whether
there is a for dict/dbfiles/verb.social which is most probably the source
of the problem (at least in this file is "inhibit, bottle up")?

This would be of great help to fix the problem. If not I'll try
to contact the upstream authors whether they know a fix.

Thanks for your interest in Debian packaged WordNet

            Andreas.
