Hi Paul- Thanks for your help. I thought to look over the kernel list before filing my report, but I guess I missed the original.
A quick trip to the alsa web site fixed my problem, but it looks like there are big troubles brewing with several sound modules. Sure hope it gets resolved soon. If my voice counts, we use Debian a lot on older computers and sound is a vital part of what we do. So, it would really assist us to have this support built-in rather than having to compile little bits and pieces ourselves.
