Looks like there is a solution to this problem after all... We just need to
tell killall5 (or whatever the shutdown killall command is) that it needs to
make exceptions when killing processes. Essentially, it needs to kill
Splashy last.

Perhaps after changing tty's to one that has been cleared of all text....
