This is the reply from upstream:

    If I understand correctly, cla() should restore the axes to a
    pristine state.  That would imply setting the scales on the x- and
    y-axis back to 'linear', which it currently doesn't do.  I have
    made this change, but that means if you will have to manually call
    "ax.set_xscale('log')" again after each call to "ax.cla()".

Since the code that will fix this behaviour is in the upcoming 0.91.2
version, this bug will be marked as "Resolved" when that version will
be uploaded in Debian.
