I am still using xmms (recompiled on my own machine to work on Debian unstable) as I cannot get real-time priority with audacious. I have the following in /etc/security/limits.conf: @audio - rtprio 99 @audio - nice -10 @audio - memlock 512000 What other settings are needed to get audacious working in real-time mode? What can be done to make audacious less resource intensive? On this PII-266 with 320 MiB RAM, xmms consumes about 3 percent of memory (less than 10 MiB resident) and 3 percent of CPU time, compared with 7 percent of RAM (22 MiB resident) and 25 percent of CPU time for audacious.
