AFAICS the postinst and postrm scripts in the nvidia kernel module sources use update-modules. This triggers a warning message at install time of the generated nvidia module saying ************************************************************************ * * The update-modules command is deprecated and should not be used! * ************************************************************************ Maybe it would be possible to remove update-modules from these scripts? I got this error message for 2.6.24, too, so I would say it is safe. Probably the other nvidia source packages are affected by this, too.
