Hi!

I noticed something interesting: I have a Shuttle barebone that is 3 years
old. Chip set is: VIA K8M800.

I have another Shuttle barebone that is brand-new.
Chip set is: NVIDIA nForce 630a

The funny thing is: Both computers are running with Debian Etch.
I installed Debian Etch R0 as identically on both computers as I could.

But: On an chip set "VIA K8M800" the command "hwclock --show" works fine.
On a chip set "NVIDIA nForce 630a" the commans "hwclock --show" produces
the output "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out".

(I also tested Lenny and Sid, and the system clock also with
those operating systems does not run correctly.)

I think, this bit of information is very useful for that programmer
who is to fix the bug: I think, it is a simple incompatibility to
some kind of hardware.

How I make a workaround that works for me is another issue wich
I still have to solve, but in the long term, I think, it is important
that someone fixes the bug, because, it *IS* a bug.

Michael
