Just to note, this does *not* happen on i386, so far as I've been able
to tell.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/sfrost> cat > 1.wml
<h1>title</h1>

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/sfrost> wml -o 1.html 1.wml
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/sfrost> l 1.wml
-rw-r--r--  1 sfrost sfrost 16 May 20 18:55 1.wml

So whatever the problem is, it doesn't appear to manifest itself on
i386.  Can we get some other libnss-ldap users to test on other archs?
Other amd64 users, maybe some alpha users, etc?
