Package: zoph
Version: 0.6-2.1etch1
Severity: normal

Just to let you know I started getting annoyed at some of the limitations in zophImport. At quick glance the latest version looks the same. Just some of the limitations I encountered:

   * I got totally confused by the interface
   * no way to automatically rotate images when importing
   * no way to test import and see what would happen
   * no tests to ensure new images don't overwrite existing files or
     images referred to elsewhere
   * if multiple matches found, it assumes the first one is appropriate
   * when performing an update it can check the filename without the
     path and result in updating the wrong database entry.
   * etc

Previously I ended up overwritting old images without realizing it (different path same file name) or having multiple database entries to the one filename.

I have rewritten large parts of the program, so that:

   * verbose is more verbose
   * dry run mode for testing to see what would happen
   * checks the destination file doesn't exist
   * checks the destination file isn't referred to by another photo in
     the database
   * will move image and thumbnails between zoph directories.
   * csv import mode
   * supports rotating image via exiftran.
   * probably others I can't remember right now.

I am reluctant to attach the file here because changes are still happening, and anything I attach here could get out of date very rapidly. Rather the aim of this bug report is to get feedback if anybody is interested in the work I have done.

Note: I haven't looked at ZophExport because I don't use it any more. Instead I wrote a perl fcgi script that will allow anonymous users efficient access to photos in the database, by direct access to the stored jpg files.
