Hi Nathanael,

the hal system daemon does not need dbus-launch (or by that means
dbus-x11). What it needs, is a running dbus system bus.
Could you investigate, if you have a running "dbus-daemon --system"
instance, when you get the hal upgrade error.
If this is the case, please check if you have disabled the dbus init
script, or if the dbus init script failed to start during the upgrade.
