We experienced about the same bug on our print server pool (running Etch
and the 1.2.7-4 package) . Cups was crashing daily during the cron.daily
runs (where the daemon is restarted after log rotation: see
/etc/logrotate.d/cupsys).
Investigation showed this was due to duplicated entries in printers.conf
Could you check whether you had this problem *because* of a duplicated
entry or if this is a completely unrelated problem?
To Cupsys maintainers: I have the test case handy and even a test server
where I can happily crash cups in case some investigation is needed.
