Package: bash Version: 3.0-14 Severity: normal Tags: l10n Hello,
Scenario: Type 3 "Ã" (that is 'e acute') with the keyboard (or paste it coming from gucharmap) when in UTF-8 locale. Go back to the beginning of the line. Paste another "Ã". See how the cursor has jumped not above the "formerly first but now second Ã" but above the "formerly second and now third Ã". Paste another wide char, such as "Ã" (that is 'a grave'). See how the "Ã" is inserted in third place and the string now reads "ÃÃÃÃÃÃ", that is with five "Ã" and one "Ã", the cursor being above the fifth char. Hit Ctrl-A to go to the beginning of the line. See how the cursor is now above the third char. Hit Ctrl-K to delete to the end of line. See how "ÃÃ" remains in front. Hit Ctrl-L to see the cursor go back to its normal (empty line). Test was done also with gucharmap using random armenian characters. In short: line editing with utf-8 locale is still broken. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (499, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-2-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages bash depends on: ii base-files 3.1.2 Debian base system miscellaneous f ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libncurses5 5.4-4 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii passwd 1:4.0.3-34 change and administer password and -- no debconf information
