Long ago, I got complaints the other way. I guess the argument was related to reliability and getting all the data into grep, but of course this is a defective argument as long as the kernel is free to swap out the argv[] data.
I think there was also some argument related to the behavior of BSD, SysV, etc. This would need to be retested. (help wanted) I happen to also find the new behavior irritating. Got anything for me to say to the people who will surely scream at me if I change this back? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
