Quoting Eddy Petrisor ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Package: poedit
Version: 1.3.1-1
Severity: important

Hello (Christian ;-),

While I was trying to do some work without kbabel I wanted to retry
poedit.

I have found that it would not display the correct characters (no
diacritics).

When trying to insert a translation I found that even input is not
allowed in some cases, although, for the permited characters (i
circumflex and a circumflex) the display is ok.

I am not sure if this is true, but I think that my locale is not set to
Romanian correctly, but I feel that poedit should not be affected by
this problem as I might be transaltator for multiple languages, not only
one.

It's very likely to be #217067 for which we have no solution until WxWindows 2.5 is back.

However do you have a test case PO file.

I just opened the ro.po file from D-I and it displays properly on my
system.

after reconfiguring the locales, the text is displayed correctly (before it was just ro with iso 8859, now is with utf-8, too; also added us_intl with utf-8 euro and another us); I have set now the system default to be ro utf-8, in contrast to default, as it was before.
