I've applied that patch to dpkg-cross CVS, so it will appear in the next uploads (not sure about 1.25, because I've already sent it to my sponsor, but definitly in 1.26). However, there may be problems with cross-compiling debian packages for amd64 target. Current debian gcc source packages don't support amd64 (3.3 may work, but 3.4 definitly won't), and this probably will not change until amd64 people become more multiarch-friendly. And using native gcc with -m64 on i386 target is not currently supported by dpkg-cross,
