I think the loss of the C++ interface to mpfr was one of the collateral damage of the split between GMP and MPFR. Upstream is currently undecided about whether to support it or not. What's clear is that the current interface is not going to be supported "as is" and it will require some upstream work to get a clean interface again (half of the interface is in gmpxx.h, the other one in mpfrxx.h...).
