The goal of my install is to have a working KDE desktop with OO.org, Firefox and Finnish i18n on desktop. I did not select any packages with tasksel, since I want a KDE only workstation and tasksel has no choice for KDE desktop. This seems to be a faq and despite it being a faq it's overlooked by tasksel developers. (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=238962&archive=yes) Problems 1. Exim installation asks questions that are confusing to newbies. By default any mail delivery out or in should disabled without questions. I chose only local delivery without network connection. Exim asks for recipient of root and postmaster mail - this is confusing for beginners. Why not send them to root by default? Bug #51125 2. dictionaries-common/ispell issues a warning about default dictionary been set to finnish and not changed to american. This is an unnecessary warning message. 3. installs gcc by default - this is unnecessary, and might be a security risk 4. starting MTA (Exim) takes a long time 5. restarts MTA after removing read-edid and mdetect - restarting takes a very long time 6. installation ready, logged in OK 7. I checked the functionality of CDROM and Floppy drive since I've had problems with them previously on Sarge. They mounted, listed files and umounted OK in shell. 8. apt-get install xserver-xfree86 xfree86-common x-window-system-core kde openoffice.org openoffice.org-l10n-fi kdm kde-i18n-fi 9. cvs installation asks about location of repositories and invalid repositories - irrelevant questions for a desktop system. The directories should be set to default (/var/lib/cvs) and the directory created without questions. Bug #35152 should be reopened. 10. shows a complicated message about libpango1.0-common and pango.aliases. A very confusing message. Asks about trusting font management to defoma - this should be set to yes and not asked. I've filed a bug against this package. 11. Tested cdrom and floppy functionality in KDE - works fine except ejecting a cdrom. CDROM can be ejected as root only in terminal. I've filed a bug report against this package.
