Do you think that including actual po files from the CVS might make sense? BTW, since you appear to be somwhat of an active user, could you help me with packaging 4.6.0?
I'm not completely familiar with the way drupal handles translations yet. If I understand correctly, the user would still need to manually import the po files for the languages they want, right? Are the translations stored in the database after import? I suppose it also matters how big the po files are.
Regarding packaging, I cannot say I have loads of free time at the moment, but if you need help badly I can try to. Concretely, how do you propose to collaborate? I can surely beta-test the packages, since I have test installation of my site.
