Package: sudo
Version: 1.6.8p12-4
The sudo() configuration file /etc/sudoers should accept a "mailfrom"
variable to specify the "From:" header for warning and error mail
generated by sudo(). Sudo already supports the "mailto" and
"mailsub" variables.
Motivation:
1) This would provide a system administrator the ability to specify
the "From:" header in sudo() alert email using an address that does
not reveal names of any machines on an internal LAN that are
generating the email.
2) I found that sudo() placed the header "From: dduck" in email
alerts when user dduck failed to provide a proper password for
sudo(). Some SMTP servers may reject the email message with a 550
Error for not having a valid "From:" address, e.g.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] To fight spam, more SMTP servers are checking
that the "From:" header at least includes a valid domain in the
address. This would be also probably be more consistent with RFC2822.
I am using Debian GNU/Linux 4.1.1-21, kernel
linux-image-2.6.18-5-686, and libc6 version 2.3.6.ds1-13etch2.
