The difference in rendering time of long lines between demo_town.lua and demo_town.txt is just because for the text file no syntax highlighting is used at all. Furthermore, syntax highlighting in Geany is done with the Scintilla editing component which is embedded in Geany. If this really is an issue, report a bug at Scintilla's bug tracker[1] please.
