Namely, there seems to be a finite ramp-up time shaved Ian> off from the beginning of sound files. This happens both with Ian> "aplay" and "play" (from the sox package), but the effect is more Ian> pronounced (so to speak) with aplay. For instance, executing Ian> Ian> aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Rear_Left.wav Ian> Ian> sounds more like "Ir Left".
Elimar> What is the bug here? aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Rear_Left.wav Elimar> works as espected. Do you have any more problems to use alsa? Elimar> Does playing music files work with sound apps, like xmms, Elimar> audacity etc, well? I believe my report was clear enough :-( I don't use this laptop for music - the sounds I play are all of this type, short blurbs. Alerts for instant messaging, alerts when my opponent moves in the chess game, etc. etc. Do you think it is not a problem when these get cut off? I think the files in /usr/share/sounds/alsa were meant for accessibility - audible feedback for people who don't get a full visual one.
