I submitted patches for both the -fullscreen and -root issue to the upstream patch tracker: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=5771&atid=305771
The -fullscreen issue is maybe a bug in Xorg, but has a small and safe workaround. The -root issue is more messy, I feel there can be better ways than my patch.
