I finally managed to make the damn thing work, and it works better than it ever did before. The cause seems to be some mime-type mish-mash corroborated with pulseaudio (strangely enough, I was having issues when pulseaudio was stopped). Fixing the issue involved: - hand editing ~/.mozilla/pluginreg.dat to remove any reference to swf, flv, flash or gnash (if removed entirely, seems to be properly generated) - (probably not relevant for epiphany) hand editing ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/mimeTypes.rdf to remove any reference to flv, swf, flash or gnash. - removing/moving away the entire .gstreamer-0.10 directory (is recreated) - starting pulseaudio since it was stopped I did the tests using epiphany-browser since I have many extensions installed in iceweasel. Once the issues were fixed for epiphany, I just started icewesel, too, and it worked without further changes. I am not sure if gnash shouldn't conflict with the non-free flash plugin.
