When you install Debian using the "unofficial" image, it puts the proprietary Intel microcode into /lib/firmware on your hard drive. So when you upgrade Debian, the microcode is still there. The new kernel (2.6.24) which I suggested has the GPL Ethernet driver and since the microcode is on your hard drive, everything will work. > 2) Could there be problems with upgrading packages in my etch-based system > via apt when I have such a mixed installation? No, since you're only installing one indiviual package from unstable that has no dependencies on anything else that matters. It won't cause any problems. > 3) How do I reverse the upgrade, i.e. install the backup of the flash > content in case there are problems? You can use the upslug2 program in case you have another Linux machine. upslug2 -U backup Otherwise there's a program available for Windows, see http://cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/install.html for more info. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
