Hmm. Quite a bit got upgraded since I hadn't done a dist-upgrade in a few months. Iceweasel was among the upgrades. I'm not sure if/where there is a record of what got upgraded when.
Also I noticed, turning off javascript doesn't entirely fix the hanging. It does for most sites, but a few I've noticed still hang, like cyclingnews.com for example.
