Package: lsb-base Version: 3.1-24 Severity: important
Hello, the hurd. I've got a problem with 'gdm' on my Debian GNU/Linux Lenny/Sid system. My problem is that on my system, maily based on both 'lenny' and 'sid' and up-to-date as of yesterday 22-February-2008, gdm is NO LONGER started automa- tically from the normal startup sequence. Further action via '/etc/init.d/gdm {start|stop} doesn't help either. Replacing '/usr/sbin/gdm' by a logging hook program, I diagnosed that my hook program, and thus the actual gdm binary ( /usr/sbin/gdm.original ), WAS NOT LAUNCHED. Could you please help me diagnose this problem. Here follows a list of packages of interest I run with their version: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 2.6.24-4 (from Sid) initscripts 2.86.ds1-53 (from Lenny) lsb-base 3.1-24 (from Lenny) sysvinit-utils 2.86.ds1-53 (from Lenny) debianutils 2.28.3 (from Lenny) libc6 2.7-6 (from Lenny) splashy 0.3.8-1 (from Lenny) splashy-themes 0.4 (from Lenny) libsplashy1 0.3.8-1 (from Lenny) The problem is the same when I run the following kernel instead: linux-image-2.6.22-3-k7 2.6.22-6.lenny1 (from Lenny) Then, any hint? I highly suggest this be a bug (discrepancy of packages' expectations) of initscripts, lsb-base and *splashy* . Or is 'gdm' mis-registered?
