Interesting to know. I indeed just nagged the openldap package maintainers (especially Torsten who kindly followed all my suggestions) to have the debconf templates more DTSG-compliant (and, for instance, remove a few "say yes" instances). However, I didn't knew about that specific argument to avoid mentioning default values in static templates. This is a very interesting argument to have when requesting for templates changes. I have already felt that templates mentioning the default values is absolutely useless anyway, as everyone is capable of figuring WHAT default values are by just looking at what is currently in the field..:-). So, most of the time, templates saying "The default value is....." is just useless verbosity (and annoyance to translators). I should write some additionnal recommendations about this in the chapter about debconf templates in the DR manual.
