Package: checkinstall
Version: 1.6.1-5
Severity: normal

I last used checkinstall on 2008-01-18 on C-Kermit from
ftp.columbia.edu/kermit/test/tar/x.tar.gz with an early release of
gcc-4.3.

Today when I attempted to run it, both under 2.6.24 and 2.6.23 kernels,
checkinstall deleted the /usr/bin/kermit from my previous successful
checkinstall run then failed, as if the checkinstall program failed to
work in a chrooted environment.

If you can suggest any debugging tips I will try them.
